< 2 Nephi 3 >
v. 18 And the Lord said unto me also: I will raise up unto the fruit of thy loins; and I will make for him a spokesman.
The spokesman
Because of those D&C references, many LDS commentators connect the 2 Nephi 3:18 “spokesman” to Sidney Rigdon, who assisted Joseph in declaring the Restoration message.
The spokesman
- The “spokesman” is commonly identified with Oliver Cowdery (Joseph Smith’s close associate and early spokesman), or sometimes with a future descendant of Joseph of Egypt who will help declare the writings.
- Doctrine & Covenants 100:9–11: The Lord calls Sidney Rigdon Joseph Smith’s spokesman — “for I have given him to be a spokesman unto you.”
- D&C 36:1: Sidney is again called Joseph Smith’s spokesman.
Because of those D&C references, many LDS commentators connect the 2 Nephi 3:18 “spokesman” to Sidney Rigdon, who assisted Joseph in declaring the Restoration message.
