Koko Head
When Brian Chen told me this place existed, I couldn't believe it. A Manitou Incline in Hawaii! Both have excellent views, and both are tough. It's about 1048 railroad ties to the top of Koko crater. Once up there, you can explore the summit for some excellent views. If you are from Colorado, this is a must do. Go early in the morning otherwise, the sun will melt you.
For some added fun, you can walk around the crater rim and all the way back down to the road. Last time Sara and I did this, she lost her hat and we fell down part of the mountain. It's actually a lot of fun, just beware that it is somewhat technical, very windy, and pretty darn steep. If you go early in the morning (as recommended), then head over to Island Brew Coffeehouse for breakfast when you are done. Sit outside on the water and enjoy some tasty food, great views, and perfect weather. |

The Hike:
Park by the baseball diamond. From the baseball field, you will see a little trail that heads toward the stairs.
Head up the stairs. It's hard to get lost on this one and don't fall through any of the open spaces between railroad ties!
Once at the top, there are a host of little trails that you can use to explore the pill boxes and to get different views of the surrounding area. Be careful on your way back down!
